Verum Group is putting their experience in passive water treatment systems toward a new target, the removal of nitrate from agricultural water. This research uses a system to remove nitrate from tile drain water on a participating farm in the Waikirikiri-Selwyn River catchment. We are trialling two bioreactor systems, a more traditional woodchip bioreactor, and a “enhanced passive treatment system”. By providing additional nutrients into the reactor, we create a favourable environment for the bacteria to flourish and reduce the nitrate to nitrogen.

Active Dust Sampling: Preventing Workplace Health Hazards

Dust is a prevalent byproduct of many workplace activities and, if not properly managed, can pose significant health risks to employees. Monitoring and controlling dust levels in the workplace is facilitated by proactive dust sampling. By identifying and addressing dust hazards before they become a problem, proactive dust sampling can aid in the prevention of workplace health hazards.

The Advantages of Preventative Dust Sampling

Implementing a proactive dust sampling program in the workplace has numerous advantages. First and foremost, it can aid in protecting the health of employees by identifying and eliminating potential hazards. By regularly monitoring dust levels, employers are able to identify areas where dust levels exceed recommended levels and take measures to address the problem before it causes health problems for workers.

Additionally, proactive dust sampling and odor sampling can aid employers in meeting regulatory requirements. Numerous industries have specific regulations regarding particulate exposure levels, and proactive sampling can help employers ensure compliance.

In addition, proactive dust sampling can assist employers in identifying areas of the workplace where excessive dust is generated. By identifying these areas and implementing measures to reduce dust production, employers can save money on cleansing and maintenance costs and improve worker safety.

Implementing a Program for Proactive Dust Sampling

To implement a proactive dust sampling program, employers must first identify the likely dust-generating areas of the workplace. This may include areas where materials are cut, ground, or sanded, as well as areas where machinery is used.

Employers should then devise a sampling plan that specifies the sampling frequency and locations for dust. This plan should be founded on the type of work being performed, the identified potential hazards, and any applicable regulatory requirements.

Employers should conduct routine dust sampling using the appropriate equipment and sampling methods once the sampling plan is in place. A qualified laboratory should then analyze the collected samples to ascertain the dust's composition and concentration levels.

Taking Action Based on Results of Dust Sampling

Employers should take the necessary measures to control dust levels in the workplace based on the results of the dust sampling. This may involve instituting engineering controls such as ventilation systems, utilizing personal protective equipment such as respirators, or modifying work practices to reduce dust production.

Noting that proactive dust monitoring is not a one-time event, but rather an ongoing process, is essential. Employers should review and update their sampling plans and control measures on a regular basis to ensure their continued effectiveness.

"A Comprehensive Guide to Understanding the Significance of Asbestos Sampling"

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that has been utilized for decades in a variety of construction materials due to its fire-resistant and insulating properties. However, asbestosis, mesothelioma, and lung cancer can develop following years of asbestos fibre exposure. Asbestos is known to cause severe health problems; therefore, it is essential to detect and eliminate its presence in structures and materials. Currently, asbestos sampling is necessary. This comprehensive guide covers everything you need to know about asbestos sampling and why it's so important.

What Does Asbestos Sampling Entail?

To sample for asbestos, small fragments of potentially contaminated objects are extracted and analyzed for asbestos filaments. The samples are collected by asbestos experts with the appropriate training and equipment. The samples are then analyzed by accredited laboratories to ascertain the type and concentration of asbestos.

Asbestos Analysis:

How to Determine the Presence of Asbestos:

Prior to the 1980s, asbestos-containing construction materials (ACMs) were commonly used. Asbestos surveys that include asbestos samples can disclose the presence or absence of the material in a given structure. It is essential to detect asbestos in order to safeguard the health of building occupants and the adjacent ecosystem.

Exposure Risk Evaluation:

Asbestos fibres in the air pose a grave health risk to building occupants. Asbestos sampling can help determine the severity of a situation by distinguishing the asbestos type and quantifying its presence.

Preparation for Asbestos Control and Elimination:

In order to ensure the removal and management of asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) in a safe manner, accurate asbestos sampling must be conducted in advance. Using the results of the sampling, a management plan will be developed to minimize asbestos fibre exposure during the removal procedure.

Compliance with the law:

As part of the regulations governing the maintenance of asbestos products, asbestos sampling is required in many jurisdictions. There may be financial and penal consequences for disobeying these rules.

Methods for Asbestos Sampling:

Asbestos samples can be categorized into two groups:

Sampling Large Samples:

To analyze asbestos in bulk in New Zealand, a representative sample of the substance is obtained for testing at a certified laboratory. Customarily, bulk sampling is used to detect the presence of ACMs in buildings and construction materials.

Aerosol Sampling:

Air asbestos sampling in New Zealand is used to collect air samples from a building or area under investigation for the presence of asbestos fibers. The samples are collected with the aid of sophisticated instruments and procedures and then sent to a certified laboratory for analysis. Air sampling can be used to determine asbestos fibre exposure.

Asbestos analysis NZ

Asbestos testing is the process of identifying asbestos materials in a building or other structure. Testing can be done by removing samples and analyzing them for signs of asbestos, or by using imaging techniques to detect fibers that may have been disturbed by the presence of asbestos.

An asbestos analysis is a process used to determine the presence of asbestos in a material. Asbestos can be found in many different types of materials, including buildings, insulation, and car parts. The presence of asbestos can lead to health problems if it is inhaled or ingested.
